Fuzhou will host the 6th Fuzhou Jasmine Tea Culture Festival and the 5th Fuzhou Tea Trade Fair from Sept 4 to 7, offering a platform for industry showcases, cultural exchange, business matchmaking and public engagement.
The four-day events will focus on industrial development, digital innovation and wider public participation, highlighting Fuzhou's rich tea heritage and its growing role in the global tea industry.
Known as the birthplace of jasmine tea and a "World Tea Port", Fuzhou has a long history of tea production and trade. In May, its jasmine tea industry cluster was selected as one of China's 2026 national-level competitive specialty industry clusters. It is the only tea-related cluster among the 40 selected nationwide, and the only one in Fujian province independently established by a prefecture-level city.
Covering 30,000 square meters, the events will feature three themed exhibition halls showcasing tea, tea ware, cultural and creative products, packaging, new-style tea drinks and tea spaces.
Industrial development is a key focus this year. A new provincial standard for the traditional Fuzhou jasmine tea scenting technique took effect in May, providing guidance on scenting equipment, production procedures, and temperature and humidity control to support the preservation and development of the traditional craft.
A dedicated exhibition area will bring together three major jasmine tea industrial parks in Cangshan, Yongtai and Minqing, along with leading new-style tea beverage companies, showcasing the full industry chain from cultivation and processing to branding and the integration of tea with tourism and culture.
This year's festival will also introduce an innovative model integrating culture, technology and industry. The upgraded AI digital human "Fu Duoduo" will debut at the opening ceremony and feature in the festival's promotional activities. An immersive exhibition will take visitors through four sections covering the history of jasmine tea, industry development, traditional scenting techniques, and new tea experiences.
The festival will also bring jasmine tea culture into the city through a range of public activities. Pop-up tea houses, traditional-style music and dance performances, and tea-tasting events will invite visitors to experience Fuzhou's tea culture while connecting producers with buyers from hotels, restaurants and e-commerce platforms.
On Sept 5 and 6, Shangxiahang Historical and Cultural District in Fuzhou will host a themed market featuring innovative tea drinks, jasmine-flavored snacks and intangible cultural heritage crafts.
The public can also participate in short-video and micro-drama submissions, photography projects, and cultural and creative activities, alongside social media challenges and offline check-in activities.
