Bond with Kuliang: U.S. youth delegation tours five Fuzhou schools for cultural exchange

On June 30, delegates from the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation, along with students and teachers from U.S. Flying Tigers Friendship Schools and a delegation from Honolulu, visited five Fuzhou schools — Fuzhou No. 2 High School, Fuzhou No. 3 High School, Fuzhou No. 7 Middle School, Fuzhou No. 11 High School, and Fuzhou Pingdong Middle School — as part of the Bond with Kuliang: 2026 China-U.S. Youth Baseball Exhibition Games and Sports Festival.

Despite the summer heat, the campuses buzzed with vibrant cross-cultural interactions.

At Fuzhou No. 2 High School, U.S. guests were welcomed with jasmine garlands and enjoyed dance performances, dodgeball, land dragon boat races, electronic shooting, and lacquer fan making.

Gene Liu, a seventh‑grader from the U.S. Flying Tigers Friendship Schools, spontaneously danced, expressing his fondness for Fuzhou's traditional culture.

At Fuzhou No. 3 High School, the Honolulu delegation visited the school’s psychology and biology labs, participated in a DNA identification experiment, tried calligraphy and seal stamping, and played the guzheng while sipping jasmine tea.

At Fuzhou No. 11 High School, students created printmaking postcards and painted umbrellas with floral motifs. A basketball friendly match, choir performance, drone soccer, archery, and table tennis fostered lively teamwork.

Volunteer Wu Ruojun, a Fuzhou native studying in Hong Kong, helped U.S. peers discover local landmarks, calling cultural resonance a bridge for friendship.

At Pingdong Middle School, a dance and a rendition of Jasmine Flower opened the event, followed by traditional pitch-pot games and tai chi sessions, allowing guests to experience the grace and strength of Chinese martial arts.

The day's activities, spanning intangible cultural heritage, sports, and science, sowed new seeds of China‑U.S. goodwill across the Pacific.
