Chinese and American youth participating in the Bond with Kuliang: 2026 China-U.S. Youth Baseball Exhibition Games and Sports Festival explored Fuzhou's rich cultural heritage on July 1 through a series of immersive cultural and sports exchange activities. From strolling along centuries-old streets to practicing traditional Chinese arts and sports, the day's experiences offered the young participants a deeper appreciation of the city's history, culture, and spirit of friendship.
The group began the day at Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, one of China's best-preserved historic neighborhoods. Surrounded by ancient residences and winding stone lanes, the students watched a traditional Min Opera performance, learned about renowned historical figures connected to the area, and discovered the stories behind Fuzhou's thousand-year-old cultural legacy.

For many American participants, the visit brought history vividly to life. Max West Rasilla, a student from Alfred University who has studied Chinese for years, said he was especially impressed by the neighborhood's remarkably well-preserved architecture and atmosphere. Having returned to China with family and friends, he said he hopes more people will experience the country firsthand, believing that genuine understanding comes from seeing another culture with one's own eyes.
At Minjiang University, Chinese and American youth explored both traditional culture and modern innovation. They tried their hands at archery, practiced Chinese martial arts, created colorful lacquer fans, an intangible cultural heritage craft, and visited the university's advanced training center to experience 3D printing technology. The hands-on activities sparked curiosity, laughter, and lively conversations as participants learned from one another.
The exchanges continued at Fujian Sports Vocational Education and Technical College, where young athletes trained together in badminton, table tennis, martial arts, and other sports under the guidance of instructors and student volunteers. Practice sessions quickly turned into conversations as participants shared techniques, encouraged one another, and discovered common ground through sport.
Blending history, culture, technology, and sports, the day's activities highlighted the enduring value of people-to-people exchange. As Chinese and American youth learned, played, and explored side by side, they built friendships that transcend borders and carry forward the enduring spirit of the Bond with Kuliang.
