2026 China Baseball League Finals conclude in Pingtan, Fuzhou

The 2026 China Baseball League Finals came to a close at Pingtan Baseball Park on May 31, with the Shanghai Huaxin Baseball Team winning the championship, Jiangsu Juma Baseball Team finishing as runner-up and the Fujian Sea Sharks Baseball Team in third place.

In the opening game of the closely contested best-out-of-three championship series Shanghai edged out Jiangsu 5–4 to take an early lead. Shanghai maintained its momentum in Game 2, defeating Jiangsu 12–2 to win the league title.

In the third-place playoff on May 30, the Fujian Sea Sharks faced the Tianjin Lions in a winner-take-all contest. Building on their strong performance during the Pingtan stage of the competition, where they defeated several top teams and advanced to the finals undefeated, the Sea Sharks continued their impressive run. The team showcased strong teamwork and solid offensive and defensive skills, clinching an emphatic 11–1 win to take third place.

This result is a historic milestone for the Fujian Sea Sharks. It is the first time the team has reached the league finals and its best performance in a national competition since its establishment in 2024.

This successful hosting of the finals further reflects the rapid development of baseball in Fujian province and highlights Pingtan's growing reputation as a premier destination for baseball events. The tournament also strengthens the region's ability to host high-level competitions in the future.

Yang Siwei, a senior Chinese Baseball Association official, praised Pingtan's event-hosting capabilities. He noted that the region had previously hosted the National Baseball Championship and the Asian Baseball Championship, and now possesses well-developed facilities able to  support China's highest-level professional baseball competitions.

"Pingtan has developed a highly professional competition organization system," Yang said. "The venues and logistical services are excellent, and both the players and fans enjoy being here. During their free time, they can also explore Pingtan's scenic attractions."

As baseball continues to gain popularity in China, Pingtan is emerging as an important hub for the sport, combining world-class sports facilities with its unique coastal culture and tourism resources.
