Fuzhou City is located in eastern Fujian Province, at the lower reaches of the Minjiang River. As the provincial capital and a nationally renowned historical and cultural city, it administers 6 districts, 1 city, and 6 counties, with a total land area of 12,000 square kilometers and a permanent population of 8.5 million. In 2025, Fuzhou achieved a GDP of around RMB 1.5 trillion, growing 5.6% year-on-year.

Fuzhou boasts a long history and a profound cultural heritage. With over 2,200 years of urban development, it has nurtured the distinctive "Mindu (Fuzhou) culture", represented by the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, and the Fujian Shipyard (Foochow Arsenal). The city has shaped its inclusive and open-minded spirit of embracing diversity. Fuzhou is home to 74 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (including former members of the CAS Academic Divisions), leading provincial capitals in China.

Fuzhou enjoys a unique geographical location and abundant natural resources. Its sea area spans approximately 11,000 square kilometers, with a mainland coastline of 963 kilometers. The city has major port areas such as Luoyuan Bay, Inner Minjiang River Estuary, and Jiangyin, featuring 66 deep-water berths capable of handling vessels over 10,000 tons. Fuzhou Changle International Airport operates 118 domestic and international routes.

Fuzhou has a thriving economy with growing comprehensive strength. The city has developed 6 industrial clusters, each exceeding RMB 100 billion in output value: textile & chemical fiber, light industry & food processing, machinery manufacturing, metallurgy & building materials, new chemical materials, and electric power & energy. 11 Fuzhou-based enterprises rank among China's Top 500 Private Companies. The digital economy and marine economy are flourishing rapidly, with the digital economy reaching RMB 830 billion in 2025 and the gross ocean product ranking first in the province and among the top in the country.

Fuzhou is renowned for its picturesque landscapes and excellent ecological environment. Situated along rivers and facing the sea, the city enjoys comfortable weather and a pleasant climate. It boasts national-level scenic spots such as Gushan Mountain, as well as the 5A-rated Three Lanes and Seven Alleys. With over 150 famous historical sites and 139 inner waterways running through the city, Fuzhou ranks second among China's provincial capitals in forest coverage. The city maintains excellent air quality for 95.9 % of the year, with 100% of its major water bodies meeting high-quality standards.
