Cultural and scenic delights attract visitors to Fuzhou during Qingming holiday

Fuzhou became a popular destination during this year's Qingming holiday, which coincided with spring breaks in some regions, creating a surge in travel demand. Known for its spring landscapes, cultural heritage and hands-on experiences, the city drew a growing number of visitors, particularly from eastern China.

Major attractions across Fuzhou city reported strong visitor flows. Three Lanes and Seven Alleys Historic District ranked among the most popular sites in Fujian province. Hotel bookings in Fuzhou rose by around 50 percent compared with previous periods, while high-end hotel reservations increased by more than 70 percent, according to data from Tongcheng Travel, with family trips accounting for more than half of all bookings.

Short-distance travel remained a key trend during the holiday, with nearby trips making up over 60 percent of bookings. "Two days, one night" spring getaway packages were especially popular. Searches for activities such as flower viewing, camping and outdoor excursions in Fuzhou rose sharply. Seasonal highlights included cherry blossoms at Wushan Mountain, bougainvillea in Three Lanes and Seven Alleys and blooming yellow trumpet trees in Shangxiahang Cultural Scenic Area.

Beyond urban attractions, river cruises along the Minjiang River attracted many families, especially for evening sightseeing. Coastal areas such as Lianjiang county also drew visitors with fresh seafood specialties, adding to the appeal of spring travel in the region.

For many travelers, the appeal of Fuzhou lies in experiences that combine sightseeing with cultural discovery. Visitors can explore historic residences, learn about local history and try traditional crafts such as lacquerware, cork carving and Shoushan stone carving. Attractions such as Fuzhou Panda World and Luoyuan Bay Ocean World also offer interactive, family-friendly experiences.

According to Tongcheng Research Institute, the holiday boosted both short-distance leisure travel and longer cross-province trips. By turning traditional culture into interactive and engaging experiences, Fuzhou is evolving from a sightseeing destination into a more diverse tourism hub offering both cultural depth and modern appeal.
