Intangible cultural heritage martial arts showcased in Fuzhou

On March 28, a vibrant tai chi-themed intangible cultural heritage martial arts performance was showcased at the Liangcuo Historic and Cultural District in Fuzhou. Tai chi, which integrates philosophy, wellness and martial arts wisdom, boasts a long and storied history. It was added into the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2020. In 2025, UNESCO adopted a resolution to establish March 21 as International Tai Chi Day. Minghe Fist, also featured in the event, was added to the Fujian Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2022. Together, these traditions highlight the enduring vitality and cultural significance of Chinese martial arts.

During the event, a parallel "My Tai Chi Story" short video campaign invited the public to share their personal connections with martial arts. Selected entries were showcased on the main venue's big screen, adding a heartfelt, personal dimension to the celebration as residents used visual storytelling to capture the role of martial arts in everyday life.
