On Feb 6, the month-long 2026 Fuzhou Spring Festival Cultural & Tourism Month officially began at the historic Shangxiahang Cultural Scenic Area in Fuzhou, Fujian province. Running through March 6, the event features four major themes: intangible cultural heritage celebrations, red tourism programs, immersive festive experiences and cultural performances.
With Shangxiahang serving as the main venue and activities extending across all counties and districts, the program is creating a citywide New Year cultural atmosphere for residents and visitors, offering a distinctive Fuzhou-style Spring Festival celebration.
At the main venue, activities are centered on the theme "Fortune Arrives at Once", recreating scenes of traditional Fujian merchant culture and local life. Five signature experiential programs have been introduced, including festive markets, traditional art showcases, cultural landscape displays, interactive blessing activities and themed tours.
Across the city, districts have launched parallel events with distinctive characteristics. Sanfang Qixiang and Zhuzifang are hosting Fujian Opera flash mob performances, lacquer art exhibitions and traditional dance programs. Areas like the Nangong Hekou and the Carving Factory are combining ancient port heritage with contemporary cultural installations and innovative intangible heritage spaces. Liangcuo historic district is organizing New Year markets, heritage performances and immersive traditional courtyard experiences.
During the festival, Fuzhou's cultural and tourism authorities have also introduced multiple themed travel routes covering intangible cultural heritage, red tourism, historic residences, hot springs, rural leisure and local cuisine. These routes connect cultural landmarks, traditional crafts and natural attractions across both urban and rural areas.
A series of public benefit measures will also be rolled out. From Feb 15 to March 3, buses and metro services across the city will be free of charge. Major metro stations will feature display cabinets showcasing traditional Fuzhou craftsmanship. In addition, visitors can apply for complimentary cultural gifts, including Fuzhou Qinghong rice wine and fish ball-themed souvenirs, through the official Sanfang Qixiang tourism platform.
The 2026 Fuzhou Spring Festival Cultural & Tourism Month features more than 1,800 cultural tourism events, public performances and exhibitions. By integrating Fujian merchant culture, intangible heritage resources and historic architecture with contemporary consumption trends and digital interactive elements, the program aims to present a comprehensive and vibrant Spring Festival celebration throughout the city.
