"Winter Clouds Over Guling" Film Poster Exhibition opens in Kuliang

The "Winter Clouds Over Guling — Film Poster Exhibition & Salon" opened on December 12 at the Kuliang Club in Fuzhou.

The event seeks to advance the Belt and Road Initiative's cultural exchange vision by using film as a medium to foster dialogue and emotional resonance between civilizations. It also aims to offer Fuzhou residents high-quality cinematic and cultural experiences, enhance the city's cultural appeal, and contribute to local cultural development.

The program began with a special screening of "Dear Kuliang", a China–U.S. co-produced documentary. As the first documentary to systematically present the historical and humanistic story of Kuliang from an international perspective, the film previously premiered at the 21st Chinese American Film Festival and the Chinese American Television Festival in Los Angeles, where it received high praise from critics. Described as emotionally rich and visually expansive, the film conveys themes of trust, understanding, and aspirations for peace. Through bold cross-national collaboration, it brings the story of Kuliang to global audiences with a fresh and compelling narrative style.

In the post-screening discussion, members of the creative team and academic experts explored the documentary's artistic features, focusing on audiovisual expression, historical narrative, and cross-cultural communication. Their dialogue underscored how the film uncovers humanistic value through imagery, captures contemporary realities, and contributes to cultural understanding and mutual learning.

The poster exhibition features 72 classic winter-themed global film posters, capturing cinematic expressions of winter atmospheres and humanistic reflection through visual art.

Running until December 14, the event also featured a series of academic lectures and film salons at the Kuliang Club, uniting scholars from Renmin University of China, Sun Yat-sen University, Minjiang University, and other institutions. Through an open format that combines academic salons with post-screening conversations, the program aims to make professional film criticism more accessible to the public and integrate academic resources into the city's cultural landscape.

Drawing on Fuzhou's role as a significant hub on the Maritime Silk Road and Kuliang's distinct history of international exchange, the event has built a cultural platform that connects past and present, local and global, through film. It has enriched local cultural life and provided a tangible example of how cinema can contribute to urban cultural renewal and promote mutual understanding among civilizations.
