Fuzhou named 'Most Promising Rising City of the Year'

2025 Report on the International Communication Influence of Chinese Cities released in Beijing

On June 23, the 2025 Report on the International Communication Influence of Chinese Cities was officially released in Beijing. Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province, was named the Most Promising Rising City of the Year, recognized for unlocking its "international traffic code" by using culture to build bridges and its scenic landscapes to engage the world.

The report is a data-driven, multi-dimensional analysis of how Chinese cities are perceived on the global stage. It highlights cities that have captured international attention, while uncovering distinctive local stories that offer valuable insights for building meaningful people-to-people connections.

In 2024, Fuzhou stood out by using the symbol of "bridge" and the imagery of "mountains and seas" to foster global dialogue. Events such as the "Bond with Kuliang: 2024 China-U.S. Youth Festival" and the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students served as dynamic platforms for cross-cultural engagement, opening new windows for international exchange and mutual understanding.

In the cultural and tourism sphere, Fuzhou's innovative "cliffside cafés", a thrilling fusion of dramatic landscapes and creative tourism, gained global attention and became a new landmark for adventure-seekers worldwide.

In recent years, Fuzhou has continued to build on its identity as the "City of Blessings", aiming to become a coastal and ecological urban hub. The city has prioritized cultural development and global tourism appeal, promoting integrated culture tourism, diversifying tourism offerings, and driving both the quality and scale of its cultural economy. Platforms such as the Maritime Silk Road International Tourism Festival have enhanced Fuzhou's international visibility, improved inbound tourism services, and attracted visitors from key global markets.

The 2025 Report on the International Communication Influence of Chinese Cities was jointly released by the School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University, the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Center for International Communication Studies at China Daily, and China Daily's New Media Center. The report helps empower Chinese cities to present themselves to the world in a vivid, relatable, and people-oriented way—serving as windows through which the global community can better observe and understand China.
