Flying Tigers Friendship Schools and Youth Leadership Program

On September 1, 2022, the Flying Tigers Friendship Schools and Youth Leadership Program was launched at Jack Lund Schofield Middle School in the United States. Jointly initiated by the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation and the Jack Lund Schofield Middle School in Las Vegas, Nevada, the program received support from the Consulate General of China in San Francisco.

Jack Schofield, a bomber pilot who served in China during World War II, was one of the American servicemen known as the Flying Tigers. His namesake school proudly carries the Flying Tiger as its mascot, symbolizing the deep bond forged between the Chinese and American people during their shared wartime struggle.

Since the latter half of 2023, the program has continued to expand, with schools from Pennsylvania, California, Texas, Arkansas, and Virginia joining the initiative. As of 2024, more than 60 Chinese secondary schools and universities and over 20 American secondary schools and universities have become part of the program.

The program aims to promote the spirit of the Flying Tigers among both Chinese and American students by commemorating their shared history, fostering mutual understanding and friendship, and deepening respect and cooperation between the two nations. Through various activities, students will gain a deeper insight into the historical significance of the Flying Tigers while contributing to the peaceful and harmonious development of both countries.

The Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation hopes to welcome more provinces and cities across China into the program, creating a broader platform for students to strengthen historical ties and engage in educational exchange. Participation is not limited to schools with direct historical connections to the Flying Tigers—any institution that supports honoring the Flying Tigers' legacy and advancing China-U.S. friendship is welcome to join.

As of April 2025, five schools in Fuzhou—Pingdong Middle School, Fuzhou No. 2 High School, Fuzhou No. 4 High School, Fuzhou No. 11 High School, and Lianjiang No. 1 Middle School of Fujian—have joined the program, further strengthening the bond between students in China and the United States.
