"I still remember some Fuzhou dialect, though not much. 'Ping'an, Ping'an' to all!"

"I love the Chinese", he said. These were the last words his son remembers him saying the last time they talked.
Donald MacInnis's final wish was to have part of his ashes scattered in the Minjiang River in Fuzhou, symbolizing his eternal bond with the land and its people.
My name is Mu Yanling, or Elyn MacInnis. I am from the United States and have lived in China for 30 years. My family has a long story with Kuliang.
I'm optimistic about the future for people of the United States and the people of China, to grow closer together.
If you talk to Americans that have lived in China, they are proud that they lived in China.
My whole family was born in China. It was the first home that I Knew. It's been a part of my life.
My father was born in China and I was born in China. I lived in China until I was 12 years old. And every summer we would go up to Kuliang when it got hot, our house had pine trees all around it, and you would hear the wind and the pines like singing. We would go freely over the hills to the swimming pool.
